1Love Leadership Principles

HOW WE BUILD A MOVEMENT:

We commit to the belief that community power means building leadership, skills, political analysis and community by bringing together those who believe in change with unity, love and support, to participate in confronting and challenging systems of power. In this process we will commit to having concrete goals and obtaining them through building and maintaining our relationships with each other and our allies.

HOW WE APPROACH CONFLICT:

We understand that this movement is bigger than one person, so we commit to approaching conflict by actively listening to all sides of the issue, and discussing the issue in a deep, thoughtful, patient and humble manner. We commit to trusting our people are coming from a good place, and we will treat others the way we want to be treated, which includes being checked when we need to be. We will commit to resolve the issues for the sake of the movement, and will work to not take it personally or be resentful. We commit to working to be stronger than our egos.

HOW WE CHECK OURSELVES & EACH OTHER:

We commit to owning up when we’re wrong because we understand that our actions affect our team, our community and the movement. We will face all efforts with and for our community with love and courage. We will resolve to accept change and remain flexible in change.

HOW WE VALUE EACH OTHER:

We commit to respecting differences by listening and valuing the opinions of others and being open-minded, fair and not judgmental. We will speak up to encourage participation and challenge others to do so because our voices matter.

HOW WE BETTER OURSELVES IN LIFE & IN MOVEMENT:

We commit to always keeping it poppin’ by being willing to throw down for the team and the movement, and give and take criticism compassionately. None of us are perfect people, but we will strive to be well organized, dependable, reliable and knowledgeable by educating and challenging ourselves. We commit to practicing self-love, family-love, and community-love, so we can be better team players in the movement and better people in our lives. At any point that we do step back from the movement, we will support those who continue to stay and build this movement for all of us.
